Teaching Thomas: Bilingual

The NY Time recently published this article, Why Bilinguals Are Smarter, and it made me think of Thomas.Actually, Thomas is multilingual. He can speak English, Cantonese,  Taishanese, and a little Mandarin. It’s interesting to see what words he knows in each language. For example, he knows the word “St. Patrick’s Day” in English but not in any other language. He knows the word “soy sauce” in Cantonese but not in any other language. And his Mandarin is limited to where he only knows some easy greetings and numbers. I think this is one of the smartest thing his mother could have done for him during his childhood.

A past article also about bilingualism. Popular topic. The Bilingual Advantage
