Teaching Philosophy #1: Respect for Diversity

To be as fair and neutral of an educator as possible, especially in teaching controversial issues. To present the issue in an unbiased way, providing resources for students to learn and argue from both sides of the issue. To give students a learning environment where they feel safe to express their opinions but upon the condition of respecting others’ at the same time. To maintain teaching goals on controversial issues focused on educating rather than converting students to a certain perspective.

To communicate that if students want to enjoy the tolerance and acceptance America’s rich diversity has to offer, students must practice the same tolerance and acceptance towards others, even if they do not agree with the values and beliefs of others.
