Anne has received the grade for the first paper we’ve gone over together and she received a C. To be honest, I was rather surprised and disappointed in myself. Naturally, I made sure that before she turned in her essay, we had gone over the key issues that needed to be fixed. I felt like the essay she turned in was decent and would at least earn her a high B.

I met with my tutee, Anne, for our second session and this time, her professor actually gave her a handout with the prompt on it! This paper isn’t due until sometime in October so we just spent some times going over what the prompt is talking about and what she should look for in her readings.

I had my first English Tutoring Center session today with the first of my two tutees, Anne. If I were to sum up how I felt during the one hour session, I would say that it was harder than I had imagine. And the first piece of advice I would give to any new tutors is to make the extra effort to remind students to come prepared.
